Growing up on the Central Coast, The Madonna Inn has always been my special place. From tea & cookies with my Nan, to spa days with my girlfriends, to my senior prom dinner (circa 2001...wish I could find that pic!). My favorite memories happened at The Inn. Of all of them, though, I have to pic the night my (now husband) surprised me with a proposal...

It was an average Friday night. We lived close to downtown & often went out to dinner on Fridays. Easy enough to walk to most restaurants. This particular Friday, he said “let’s try somewhere new?”...I was pretty sure we’d been to literally every restaurant, but ok. He said “let’s get all fancy & I’ll chose a restaurant & surprise you.” Not sure why, but I didn’t question it. I just thought “sweet! I’m busting out the ole’ heels!”.

So we get in the car & he says “close your eyes!”. I thought that was strange, but I played along. Juuuuust as I felt myself getting motion sick (that Madonna Rd. off ramp, am I right?! 🤢)...we stopped. I opened my eyes & we were parked up by the rooms. I looked at him & he said “follow me”. Nooooow I was getting butterflies. He unlocked & opened up The Hideaway room. In it was a bottle of champagne on ice. He said “surprise! I got us a room!”. And I literally thought the surprise ended there (but was thrilled!). He said we had dinner reservations for 7:30pm, but had time to pop the bubbles before. I was taking a spin around the room while he opened the bottle. I was looking out the window, turned around & there was Evan, on one knee, with a diamond in his hand 😭💕🤗😁🌸❤️ All the emotions flew in!

We had spent a number of fun evenings & little weekends at The Inn. It was so special to us & he knew how happy it made me. He said he planned on proposing at The Madonna Inn, but at a later date. For some reason, he woke up that random Friday & decided he didn’t want to wait. It was PERFECT! Dinner was wonderful, the room was romantic & the hotel staff made us feel like royalty. 7 years later, he still surprises me with trips to Madonna Inn!
